But I also happen to think that what Lego artists are capable of is incredible. Have you ever seen Lego art in person?? I can't even wrap my mind around the process of working from design to finished project - using all those little bricks in creative ways to paint a picture, tell a story, or construct a massive sculpture. It's mind boggling!
My family and I were invited to an opening night screening of The Art of the Brick exhibit at the Buffalo Museum of Science last week and we got to see this incredible art form up close and personal!
The exhibit is a mix of sculpturesc original pieces, recreated works of art such as the Mona Lisa and Starry Night by artist Nathan Sawaya, and a collection of challenge stations that encourage patrons to use Legos in creative ways. All five of us were blown away by the creations, and the kids LOVED the interactive areas.
When we got there, the boys naturally zeroed in on the refreshments and went straight for icy cups of lemonade.
And then we were off to have some fun!!
On the plaque next to the Mona Lisa, he suggests that squinting while you look at this version almost looks as real as squinting at the real deal. Try it - it's really kind of hard to tell the difference if you squint!!
We spent quite a bit of time building and racing little Lego cars and reconstructing mazes for marbles to travel through, and the boys even made a new friend before we left! ;)
Twins!
We had SO much fun checking out The Art of the Brick - the boys are already asking to go back!! Don't miss this one - it's SO incredible to see in person. When I think about the time it takes to put together one of those little kits with my kids, it blows my mind that this artist was able to create sooo many incredible pieces. One of our favorite parts was the area where he built something from a painting out of Legos and paired the piece with the painting - be sure to look for that when you go!!
This exhibit is open at the Buffalo Museum of Science now through May 5th! Have fun! :)
